Notes for Liza

Liza, it was a pleasure to have you in my literature classes, and I deeply appreciate all of your thoughtful and incisive writing in the Empire State Tribune and other venues. I wish all the best to you and Blake.

My dearest June girl: In August, 2017 you flew across the US, barely 18, to pursue your educational dreams. You have conquered every obstacle that got in your way, even ending up in NJ on an early subway ride! You have a new sense of confidence and an incredible talent with words. You have made lifelong friends, rocked the debate world, led mock trials, traveled the world and always, always landed on your feet. We are so proud and honored to be able to watch you graduate. We love you to the moon and back Liz…for infinity and beyond. Mimi and Papa

Most Honorable Vice Chairwoman,

SCWAM thanks you for your committed efforts to bettering the King’s community. May Our Lord continue to bless and guide you.

Yours in Trust,
Biggestest Lily

Liza… I don’t know where I’d be without you. Whether you knew it or not, there have been so many junctures in my life where I have drawn strength from your friendship and the example of love, kindness, grace, and humble, candid recognition of brokenness that you have set before me and our community. You are so much more than your brilliant mind and the endless litany of tasks before you. I am beyond honored to be your friend, and I am so, so excited for your future. Congratulations to you and Blake both! From the bottom of my heart, you deserve every happiness—but you are not alone in the sorrow.

Congrats Liza! And Summa Cum Laude!! AMAZING. I wish you and Blake the very best.

Oh Liza Claire Vandenboom. I don’t even know what to say. You are such a joy and a delight to know. I’m a big fan of yours that just always wants to keep a front row seat as I watch your life play out. More than that though, I’m grateful to have gotten to become friends with you during our time at King’s. Yours is such an adventurous, funny, quirky, kind, wise, awe-inspired, God-enthralled, city-loving spirit. You have such a beautiful heart for untold stories and are not afraid to chase after something you find even remotely intriguing, let alone the things you find fascinating. You’re so inspiring and I’m glad to call you friend. Congratulations on all that you’ve achieved these past few years!! I can’t wait to see what the next chapter holds <3

Liza, I’m not ready for a King’s that you are not part of. Your combination of wisdom and absolute chaos has been an important part of this community as I’ve known it. I wish you the best as you move into a new season of life. More than all that you do, I am beyond excited to see all that you become. Congratulations!

remember when we were roommates four years ago? and look at us now. I could not have bet money it would have been you and me from 20L, but I’m so glad it is. disco in the kitchen (cookin up the pork chop) tonight? also, quick question: if last night took an L, then do I bounce back tonight?

Congrats Liza!!! You are the type of student that makes every other student want to be better. It’s a privilege to have been in classes with you over the last four years—you have an extraordinary mind, and I am continually impressed!

LIZA! I love you, and I love your zest for life, sense of humor, and undying loyalty to your friends. I am eternally grateful that we crossed paths, and I am more than excited to watch you continue to do life well.

Thank you for being a true friend. You are a treasure in my lfie and in the lives of so many others!

I’m still not sure what cosmic SBA choosing forces allowed me to have you as a little, but it has been such a blessing to see you grow over your time at King’s. You have brought so much grace and wisdom, and I’ll miss the yeeting, yoinking, dancing, and praying that you brought to the hallways of King’s. Congratualations on graduating and the marriage and I’ll be praying for y’all during this next crazy stage of life!!!

I look forward to continuing to read your work in Religion Unplugged and wherever else you choose to publish! Congratulations, Liza!!

You were a super intern for us at RUP and it was exciting to see how much the team accomplished that year. We look forward to having you back on the team this coming year. You bring hustle, smarts and creativity. Meanwhile, congratulations on graduating!
Best Wishes,
Prof Glader

Hi Liza, it was so good to meet you after the graduation ceremony. I enjoyed hearing about your varied interests in religion reporting. May the Lord bless your endeavors.

Congratulations to you and Blake on your marriage. On graduation day, I had not yet connected the dots that you were the bride whose wedding Arianna was planning on attending. What a treat that she was able to go to your wedding (and a treat for us to drive to “Fritz Town” to see her before your wedding). Thank you and Blake, for helping her shuttle back to Austin to the airport.

May the Lord bless you in your endeavors, and bless your marriage!
